About Me
How it came about …
I was born a thumb sucker. When sucking my thumb for comfort I loved to smoothe anything woollen, generally caressing and picking at my mum’s jumpers! So she lovingly knitted me a woollen doll which became my ‘picking doll’. Over the years I lost and acquired several picking dolls and even if it meant staying up knitting all night, my mum ensured that my bedtime was never without it. I loved my picking dolls and the comfort they brought me. I would always have a favourite part to smoothe, my strongest memory being the fold of the sock on my most recent doll. I sucked my thumb and found comfort in my picking dolls into my early teens and am grateful to still have two well-loved dolls now. When I learned of traditional Guatemalan Worry People and the role they play, it was so relatable for me. Although I don’t knit, I was keen to create my own version using soft yarns and fabric materials. Again from personal experience, I am passionate about the use of essential oils for emotional support so I decided that each Worry Companion would carry the gift of a calming essential oil blend too. I use high quality lavender and frankincense oils with a fractionated coconut carrier oil.The idea that my little Worry Companion creations could bring some calm to sensitive ‘worriers’ like myself, fills me with absolute joy.
